Monday 10 November
The Portland Swimming Club would like to send a shout out to 11year old Rebecca Deocampo, one of our talented young swimmers. On Saturday 25th of October Rebecca travelled to MSAC to compete in the 2025 Victorian Country Junior District Competition. Rebecca was nominated to compete in the Barwon South West Swimming Association (BSWSA) team, where she competed in 4 individual events and a team relay.
Rebecca demonstrated an awesome amount of resilience on the day, as the only Portland swimmer at the competition, she travelled to Melbourne with her family, and although she felt extremely 'nervous and scared', she stepped up on those blocks and competed to the best of her ability, with awesome personal best results, including competing in her very first 50m Butterfly event, an -8.19 sec PB in her 50m Backstroke event, and a -4.89 second PB in her 50m Freestyle event.
When asked what her highlight of the meet was for her, Rebecca replied "I think the Relay. It was fun."
Rebecca, we are super proud of your effort, your courage and resilience stepping out of your comfort zone to challenge yourself and try something new.
Congratulations Rebecca!
