About Portland Swimming Club

Portland Swimming Club is located in South West Victoria about 97km West of Warrnambool and 350km South West of Melbourne.

Our Mission:

Portland Swimming Club is a community based club that is welcoming of all abilities and families. We endeavor to coach swimmers to their fullest potential by focusing on technique, fitness and embedding a passion for swimming.

Our Goals:

  • Continue to build the club and its committee.
  • Promote the benefits of swimming to a wider group of people including competitive and recreational swimmers.
  • To have swimmers training more than once per week to build capacity to swim at local and regional level competitions.
  • To extend our current coaching capacity to cater for all needs and ability levels.
  • Continue to offer a family friendly club that is accepting and welcoming of all abilities, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Continue to offer coaching and mentoring that will help swimmers reach their full potential.

How do we communicate with our members?

  • Team App is the main method of communication between the club, coaches and families. Search for Portland Swim Club using the 'Find your Team/Club' search icon Team App

What does my swimmer need to bring along to sessions? When do I need to arrive?

  • A full drink bottle
  • Goggles & cap
  • Named fins
  • A positive attitude
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of the session so we can be on time in the water

What should my swimmer be able to do?

  • Be able to do 50m of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke COMPETENTLY and CORRECTLY. This means that your child should be at a Shark/Orca/Go Academy (Swimming Australia Program) or equivalent. Also, the competency of your swimmer will be assessed by Portland Swim Club Coach.
  • Once your swimmer has been assessed they will be allocated a into one of three groups:
    • Foundation
    • Development
    • Advanced

When and where does the club currently train?

  • We currently offer multiple training sessions at the Portland Leisure & Aquatic Centre. Your swimmer can choose to participate in 1 or more sessions per week. Sessions are not run during the school holidays. 
  • Additional pop up sessions sometimes run on weekends and school holidays. These extra sessions are not included in the membership and are often at no extra cost.
  • Term 1 - Outdoor 50m pool
  • Term 2 & 3 - Indoor 25m pool
  • Term 4 - Indoor 25m pool until the Outdoor 50m pool opens for the season.

The Glenelg Junior Sport Trust provides financial support for individual athletes or teams who have been selected to represent at state, national or international level in their chosen sport aged up to 18 years of age inclusive.

The South West Sport Assembly Supports clubs in the south west to be resilient and sustainable through assistance with grant applications and funding opportunities.
