A few Portland swimmers raced at the weekend in both the Mount Gambier and Colac short course meets right off the back of the 2nd Hamilton short course swim meet for the season the weekend before.
Rhys and Marie Beddows both swam really well, achieving PBS in several of their events. Rhys entering in a total of 8 events, opted to test his endurance in a few longer course events including the 200m Freestyle, achieving a 15.02 second PB, and 200m Breaststroke; achieving 2nd place and 3rd place in each respective event. The 100m IM saw Rhys achieve a phenomenal 12.22 second personal best time. Marie, swimming her second meet ever testing herself in a 50m Freestyle event and 25m in Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly.
Another stella performance from Rebecca Deocampo who swam 6 events in Colac on Sunday 6 July placing first in both the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:43.84 and the 100m Freestyle in a personal best time of 1:28.28. Rebecca also swam a personal best time in her 50m backstroke 47.35 placing her 2nd in the event.
"On Saturday the 5th of July, our very own Rebecca Deocampo participated in the Colac Swim Meet. She was the only swimmer from Portland to participate, and she has done a fabulous job. Going to a swim meet and representing Portland Swim Club alone can create lots of nerves and it can be quite scary your first time, but if you didn’t have nerves it wouldn’t show how much passion you have for the sport and wanting to do your very best. Nerves make you want to do your very best. Rebecca swam in six events; 50 BACK, 100 BACK, 50 BRST, 100 BRST, 50 FREE, and 100 FREE. In the 50 BACK, Rebecca placed 2nd with a time improvement of -1.08 seconds and a final time of 47.35! The 100 BACK, she placed 1st with a final time of 1.43.84! In the 50 BRST, she placed 5th with a final time of 59.97! In the 100 BRST, Rebecca placed 3rd with a final time of 2.09.06!!!! In her 50 FREE, she placed 4th with a time of 40.21!!!! And in her 100 FREE, Rebecca placed 1st with a time improvement of -0.22 and a final time of 1.28.28!!!! What an amazing day Rebecca!!!
